April 14, 1969 - Royal Festival Hall, London, England

This is a recording of the first performance of the Pink Floyd playing The Man and the Journey - a conceptual piece about the daily routine of every man and the hardships that men endure. Note, many of these songs were released separately under different titles which I have put in parentheses below. As an encore, the Floyd perform a cool version of Interstellar Overdrive.

The sound quality on this recording varies. The instrumental tunes actually sound decent, but the songs with vocals sound kind of lousy for the vocals are pretty drowned out. Still, I have to say, I'm glad I have this recording, for lousy sounding Floyd is better than no Floyd at all. Besides, they play well on this night.

The set list for The Man and The Journey is as follows:

The Man...

  1. Daybreak (Grantchester Meadows)
  2. Work
  3. Afternoon (Biding My Time)
  4. Doing It
  5. Sleeping & Nightmare (Cymbaline)
  6. Labyrinth

The Journey...

  1. The Beginning (Green Is The Colour)
  2. Beset By Creatures Of The Deep (Careful With That Axe, Eugene)
  3. The Narrow Way, Part 3
  4. The Pink Jungle (Pow R. Toc H.)
  5. The Labyrinths of Auximenies
  6. Behold The Temple of Light
  7. The End of the Beginning (A Saucerful Of Secrets)
